Sports training complex to be built in Can Tho City

Can Tho city will be home to the Mekong Delta’s national sports training complex in the near future.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Can Tho People’s Committee have agreed on a US $131.25 million project on the building of the complex.

Covering 120 hectares in Binh Thuy district, the complex will include a high-quality professional training section for trainers and athletes; a sports service area, indoor and outdoor competition sections, an aquatic sports area, a 40,000-seat stadium, a football and track-and-field ground, and other facilities.

Part of the sports sector’s development strategy through 2015 with a vision to 2020, the complex will serve as a training centre for Vietnam’s elite athletes to prepare for domestic and international tournaments. Currently, national players get their training at two national sports centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
